I heard this line in a movie in a scene where a father was very concerned about his grown-up son who was undergoing a crisis in his career and family life. The father had a terminal illness and was expected to die soon and yet he finds time to go to his son and comfort him. The son was understandably puzzled at his father's action but the father simply said:
"There is always looking after..."
The "job" of a parent never gets finished. It does not end after a child successfully graduates from school. It does not get passed on when the grown-up son or daughter marries. It does not go away even when the child grows up to be the president of a multinational company or a country.
As a child goes through life, there is always a parent rooting for him or her at the background. There is always a parent clapping and spreading the news of the child's accomplishments to anyone who cares to listen. Most importantly, there is a parent who knows the secret sorrows and heartbreaks of the child and who will know whether to silently stand by and allow the child to fight his or her own battles for his or her own good or intervene.
My Say
I know for a fact that being a parent has no end. I know it because I've been through it and am still going through it. Parenthood transcends age, status, and accomplishments. My children will always be my children wherever fate brings them and that is what I like them to remember. In their triumphs, I will be rejoicing with them. In their failures, I will carry them until they are able to stand up again. In their weariness, I will be waiting for them.
That said, no matter what age of the child is, there is always looking after as far as the parent is concerned.
