School Field Demonstration Goes Festive

6:31 PM

My children's school decided to go all out in its celebration of their Founding Day, being its 20th year. It was therefore no surprise when the preparation for the School Field Demonstration was fittingly elevated to a fever pitch mode, it being the focal point of the annual celebration. The chosen theme for the year was "festivals" observed in different places. Festivals are always equivalent to color, music, and celebration. We, the parents were not disappointed as we had our own field day watching the performances of students from pre-school to high school.

Color Everywhere

I am not exaggerating when I say color was everywhere. Just look at the profusion of colors on the costumes of my children and you will have an idea of the mood that prevailed during the event. The mood was initially dampened when a slight drizzle interrupted the program, forcing the children and the parents to take cover. After some minutes, the program was finally able to start and so did the fun.

Parents and relative came in full force. It was both admirable and funny the way parents tried to capture the movements of their children literally frame by frame. Who could blame us? We're parents, after all.

My Daughter

My daughter's grade level gave an enchanting presentation through the Bailes de Luces which translates to Dances of Lights. The timing was perfect to show off their lighting accessories in their costumes. We still had enough light to capture beautiful pictures.

My Son

My son's grade level showed off an impressive number through the Carnival Glow Festival. Since they are in high school, they were able to present during the latter part which was already pretty dark. This is one of those times where I wish I had a better camera to capture clearer images but I refuse to be discouraged.

My Say

This was the very first time that my children's school field demonstration was held at night. It was definitely a different experience, tiring but fulfilling. My children asked me if we had similar school field demonstration in our time which I answered in the affirmative. Field demonstrations have long been a staple school activity as far as I can remember. In fact, it is a tradition in many schools and universities.

That said, I got a lot of good-natured ribbings from them when I showed them one of my pictures during a school field demonstration doing what they perceive as an ordinary P.E. activity. Come to think of it, I have to concede that their school activities today asked much more from them compared to my time. A lot has changed and they can expect to come across many more but I assured them that there is nothing to be afraid of. I reminded them to just enjoy their student days since life will never be as carefree.
