Essay writing doesn't come naturally to many people. It’s something that cannot be avoided as you may need to write many in your life time. The thought can fill you with dread but it’s time to get over the problem by learning once and for all the simple secrets to writing awesome essays. All you need to do is break it down into manageable chunks.
The Topic
Probably the hardest part of writing an essay is picking the topic and deciding what subject you’re going to write on. It is best to always read the question you have been given to ensure that you understood the assignment fully before you begin planning. You should try to narrow down your focus rather than covering a wide range of topics. It is easy to get overwhelmed and confused about what you want to say if you don’t stay focused.
If you've been given the task of writing an essay with complete free range, you should write about something you are totally interested in. Writing is always easier if you’re really into the subject. Create a purpose of the essay, do your research and pick out points you find to be really interesting to you. Write the subjects down and begin to evaluate your options.
Outline Your Idea
Once you have notes written down, it’s time to organise everything and get your thoughts in order. See if you can find a natural connection between the points you've jotted down, or if you can find an idea that clearly stands out to you. Form your plan and use it as the foundation of your essay. Once you have the foundation, use some mind mapping or diagrams to find several points connected to your main topic that you would like to include. Begin to really concentrate on your research and come up with a goal for the essay.
Write the Statement
Now that you have your topic and have focused on research, you must be able to produce your statement. The statement informs the reader what your essay is going to include and what the purpose is. Mention the topic and then include the points you are covering.
The Body of Your Essay
The body of the essay is where you are going to argue, describe and explain your topic. Each separate idea needs its own section and the paragraphs need to have the same structure. Give the support for your ideas and show how the examples you’re using connects the points you’re trying to make so everything is tied in neatly together.
The Introduction and Conclusion
Now you have the body, you know what to include in your introduction. Make it attention grabbing. Use a great heading and make sure the person reading it will feel the need to find out more. The conclusion closes the work as this is where you provide your final statements on the subject. Go over the main points of your topics and keep it all in five powerful sentences.
The final step is not fun but it’s essential. End by tidying up your essay, proofreading, editing and ensuring everything makes sense.
