Three Things You Could Learn To Do in 2017

3:28 PM

When it comes to setting a New Year's resolution, many people see it as a time to try and improve themselves by giving something up, or doing something they don't really enjoy too much but would benefit from, like budgeting or dieting. While these are all good things to do, it can be hard to stick to them, as they aren't really very fun and motivation can dwindle quite quickly.

What can often work better for people who want to use New Year as a time to try and make their lives better, is to start something new or set a goal? This can feel more positive and be far easier to keep yourself motivated. A good example can be setting a resolution to learn a new skill. If this seems like a good idea to you but you need some inspiration, here are three things you could learn to do in 2017:

Drive or Ride a Motorcycle

If you have always wanted to be able to drive but have been putting off learning, then why not make 2017 the year you commit to finally doing it? If you can already drive a car but have always dreamed of owning a motorcycle, then you could choose that as your goal instead. Look for driving lessons and start right away in January. You should easily have your licence before the year is out, even if you learn at a slow pace. If you are thinking of doing this, you should also check out Top Tests, which is a site with free mock theory exams you can use to practice for DVLA driving theory tests. This website can be a big help in getting up the confidence to pass the theory part of your driving test.

Learn to Play an Instrument

Lots of people love the idea of being able to play the piano, the saxophone, or even the drums, but have never got around to starting. Others have instruments they used to be able to play as a child but have not picked up in years. If this sounds like you, why not make your 2017 goal to start taking lessons in a musical instrument you love? If you think ahead enough, you may even be able to get a loved one to give you the instrument you want for Christmas!

Speak a New Language

No matter how many languages you speak, learning a new one is always an interesting thing to do whether you go for something you may already know a little of like Spanish or French, or something more exotic and challenging like Japanese. There are lots of apps and websites that can help you learn languages at home for free, and of course, it may also give you a good excuse to travel in 2017 so you can test out your new skills!

My Say

These are just three ideas for learning based New Year’s resolutions you may want to consider for 2017.

That said, it's probably time to think of your own. Just remember to make it realistic. New Year's resolutions need not be always sacrificial in nature, it can be fun just enriching our lives with learning something new because it is never too late to learn.
